Taughannock Falls carves a 400ft deep gorge through layers of sandstone, shale and limestone that were once the bed of an ancient sea. With a 215 foot plunge, this waterfall stands three stories taller than Niagara Falls.

Buttermilk Falls State Park
When: Everyday!
Buttermilk Falls State Park takes its name from the foaming cascade formed by Buttermilk Creek as it flows down the steep valley side toward Cayuga Lake. The upper park has a small lake, hiking trails through woodlands and along the gorge and rim, picnic areas and playing fields. The lower park has a campground, natural pool and playing fields, beyond which is Larch Meadows. Larch Meadows is a wetland area through which a nature trail winds.

Ludlowville Falls
When: Everyday!
Ludlowville Falls on Salmon Creek is a 35ft multi-plume cascade with a pioneer history. Salmon Creek pours over a hard limestone cap to form beautiful Ludlowville Falls. The soft shale underneath has eroded away, creating an overhang cave and deep plunge pool. This fall powered the early settlement of Ludlowville, named for the pioneer family that built a gristmill here in 1795.

Robert H. Treman State Park

Robert H. Treman State Park is an area of wild beauty, with the rugged gorge called Enfield Glen as its scenic highlight. Winding trails follow the gorge past 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, to where visitors can see a mile-and-a-half down the wooded gorge as it winds its way to the lower park. *Please note: The Gorge Trail and Red Pine Trail are currently closed for the season and will open soon.

Great Gully Falls, Union Springs

A Finger Lakes treasure for nature lovers, along the beautiful east side of Cayuga Lake!

Location: Union Springs, NY

 Take Route 90 (South from 5 and 20) along the eastern side of Cayuga Lake for about 10 miles. Depending on direction, you will see a pull-off on the east side of the road with various historical markers detailing Cayuga villages and Sullivan’s campaign against the Iroquois during the American Revolution. South of these markers, before the bridge that crosses Great Gully Creek is the parking area.

Today, Stewart Park is a regionally active park with several facilities including pavilions (available for rent), tennis courts, several play areas, athletic fields, a duck pond, a municipal golf course, and a bird sanctuary. Stewart Park also has an array of trees growing in it.

Cascadilla Falls

Picturesque Cascadilla Falls is a 20ft multiple cascading waterfall, the first on a popular gorge trail that connects Cornell University to downtown from College Ave. to Court St. Along the way, the creek drops 400ft past nine waterfalls.

*Please note:  Trail may be closed still for the season.    Cascadilla Falls (9 falls) is a 1.1 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Ithaca, New York that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
